#Diet Coke study says it's better than #water for #weight loss - #DR. WALD WEIGHS IN.


A study claims Diet Coke is better than water for helping people lose weight. Not surprisingly, Coca Cola is a member of the group that funded the study. Once again, this is proof that unless research is conducted by scientists unconnected to industry, it leads to ridiculous “findings” that endanger public health.

Unbelievably, the “study” was published in the International Journal of Obesity. Aside from concluding Diet Coke may promote weight loss, it said that in some cases the beverage might even be healthier than drinking plain water.

Not only is this a stretch, previous studies have confirmed that the consumption of diet soda is actually associated with increased waist circumference. So just how did researchers arrive at these conclusions? The methodology they used was highly suspect.

After reviewing more than 5,500 studies, they found three that compared water with diet drinks. Of these, two studies didn’t show any statistical difference in weight loss. The remaining study, which supposedly found an advantage for diet drinks, was funded by the American Beverage Association.
