There are not many current methods that evaluate the severity and progression of diseases such as cancer. We need tools that let us know that our natural therapies is/are effective – and, we need technologies that might even predict survival among individuals suffering from everything from arthritis, to fatigue, brain fog, autoimmune disease, intestinal problem and alike. And amazingly, this test costs around $95 dollars and uses a mild electric current that moves through the body (you feel nothing) providing invaluable health information such as phase angle, metabolic rate, water in and outside of our body cells, percentage of muscle, water and fat and more practical health data.
Whole body phase angle measured by with bio-impedance testing offers a new approach to both predict disease outcome and also to help individuals and their health care providers make smarter decisions in terms of what to recommend, when to recommend it, when to adjust natural health approaches and, ultimately, to determine if a persons health efforts manifest as changes in their body cells. According to Dr. Wald, “studies reveal that phase angle is an independent indicator of prognosis of cancer and many chronic diseases because it measures cell membrane integrity and function that previously could not be measured. Also, phase angle measurements take only minutes to determine and are inexpensive. Measurements that fall outside of the normal values indicate for agility and morbidity with the severity of the disease based on the drop in phase angle”.
Changes in the rate of increase or decrease of phase angle indicates the impact that disease has upon the body and thus can help with clinical interventions such as nutrition. “Let’s say that your phase angle is 4 degrees or less; this means that there is serious illness. A phase angle of 2 degrees or less means that death is imminent. A phase angle of 8 degree indicates strong cellular health. Let’s also say that you are consuming a healthy diet and taking nutritional supplements that you believe are healthy for you. If your phase angle falls within the guidelines below you will know whether or not your health efforts have translated to your cells. This is how accurate phase angle measurements are as an indicator of your cellular health relative to morbidity and mortality. Put simply, the lower your phase angle the worse your health is and the higher it is the better your health is.
Not only does phase angle offers a way in which you and your doctor can alter your health efforts to make them near perfect, but it helps your healthcare provider’s decision making.
Phase angle is a practical and economical FDA approved technique that is unique in its ability to help management of various types of traditional medical therapies and natural therapies. Here is an example - cancer is the second leading cause of death in United States responsible for over 560,000 deaths since 2010. Phase angle is an objective biomarker that predicts non-acute death in cancer. So, if the phase angle is below 4 degrees in a person with cancer doctors, and patient, change more drastically change, alter, improve whatever health efforts they are using, or, change everything if needed. Then, the phase angle is measured again to see how the celluar energy is performing (phase angle measurement).
Doctor’s accuracy in terms of prognosis, or predicting, “how things will go”, with their patients is limited and statistically is often wrong studies show. Prognosis includes an assessment of the presence and severity of disease and effectiveness of treatment and vitality of the patient in chronic disease.
Genetic markers, radiographs and imaging studies and physical exam are very limited in prognostic abilities. Studies have also shown that even palliative care is often in accurate with errors due to “optimism” on the part of the practitioner. When the doctor is wrong about how good or bad a person’s health situation will go in the future, this creates increased burden on the sick person and their families. Dr. Wald says, “this is one reasons that need more accurate and reliable approaches are needed for decision-making. We no longer need to rely on the “feelings” of health care providers, or other sorts of tests like regular blood work, because we now have phase angle. With this test we can measure cellular energy throughout the body, which is a reflection of the health of the cells membrane. This is extremely powerful information…it’s a game changer in terms of kinds of treatments provided, timing of treatments and their effectiveness. “
Dr. Wald says, “every living organism consists of tissues that are composed of cells. The cells of all of our organ systems have special tissue properties that are determined by our innate design, genetics and other factors. Toxins of all types, various forms of radiation (both natural and artificial), diet, sleep habits, medications, nutritional supplements, exercise and stress can and do affect our cellular energy systems both positively and negatively. When our cellular energies diminish disease and dysfunction insures and our cell membranes change shape – so does the water balance both in and outside of our cells. When our bodies energetics increase our cellular energies increase and our cell membranes maintain a healthy shape and structure and the water balance both in and out of our cells is as it should be.
“Measuring changes in our cells such as decreases in voltage in cells, measured by bioelectrical measurements, can let us know about the structural and functional biological systems within cells and thus within the body. This knowledge, if used correctly can make the difference between doing the right and wrong thing in terms of all of our health efforts”, says, Dr Wald.
Holistically speaking, biomolecules, microscopic structures such as organelles, cells, tissue, organs and systems compose the body; the function and structure of one or more of these components can be detrimental by a bioelectrical test that provides phase angle measurements. Traditional laboratory test such as cell counts and CT scans and MRI‘s and physical examination are not specific enough for telling us if our health building efforts are working or not. In contrast, phase angle characterizes biological energies of cell membranes that are known to be extremely accurate measures of cellular health or lack thereof.
Disease, inflammation, infection, malnutrition or prolonged physical activity will result in disturbed electrical properties of tissues that relate directly to phase angle. When one becomes aware of the importance of phase angle as a prognostic indicator that is non-invasive, modifying health efforts become easy.
Said nother way, phase angle directly relates to cell mass and function and thus indicates cell vitality. More and more scientific evidence supports phase angle as a practical indicator of survival among cancer patients. “And if it works for cancer it can work for dozens and dozens of diseases.”
Phase angle is that’s a unique biomarker of functional mass that is known to decrease in patients with advanced cancer and other diseases. However, decreased nutritional status evidenced by reduction in cell mass occurs relatively late in cancerous situations. Phase angle is sensitive to alterations in cell membrane function that can be measured as decreased phase angles that reflect altered cell function and a loss of cell body mass long before the cancer patient loses cell mass – this is a very important difference.
Phase angle values lesson 5 degrees indicate significant fragility of health. Lesser value is 4° signal a serious condition and the need for aggressive interventions while is phase angle so 2° or less indicate impending death.
Repeat phase angle measurements estimate the rate of change of health status and serve as a biomarker for the course of the disease - either its improvement or its deterioration. These changes demonstrate an immediate need in change of treatment interventions. Importantly, in patient observation studies, a decline of 1 degree of the phase angle increases worse disease outcome.
Comparative phase angle measurements should be compared and will illustrate the trajectory and providing opportunities for interventions and to know whether the interventions are working.
Whether you are considering or have been using vitamin therapies, hyperbaric therapy, food therapy or anything else - if there is not an increase in phase angle there is not an increase in health and thus there is not a decrease in morbidity and mortality.
Finally, recent evidence indicates a phase angle is an early and independent indicator of the benefit of a large number of health interventions. People with advanced pancreatic cancer for example show a phase angle that will increase significantly when they are given parenteral nutrition (IV nutrition) and they therefore have a better prognostic outcome – in other words, they live longer and better.
