Children's Services/Pediatric
Nutrition
Dr. Nilay Shah and Dr. Michael Wald believe that it is not enough to just figure
out the nutritional needs of children without also developing effective
strategies which allow children and their parents to effectively follow through
with specific nutritional advice. The good news is that Dr's Wald and Shah love
to work with children of all ages and kids seem to respond well to their warm
and caring personalities.
Scientific studies have shown that many children, even overweight children, are
nutritionally deficient (known as over-consumptive malnutrition) in various
vitamins and minerals as well as certain types of essential amino acids, fats
and carbohydrates. Figuring out the unique nutritional needs of a child may be
complex, but can be accomplished by listening, performing a careful medical and nutritional
history and examination, and through laboratory testing.
Dr. Wald and Dr. Shah are happy to work with your pediatrician. Sometimes, a
team-approach is the best approach.
Common pediatric and young adult problems which may be
helped by nutritional intervention include:
| Attention Deficit Disorder & Hyperactivity | Malabsorption Syndromes |
| Autism | Neuro-sensory Disorders |
| Asperger Syndrome | Psoriasis |
| Eczema | Spectrum Disorders |
| Immune Issues | Throat and Ear Infections |
| Intestinal Issues | Weight Problems |
