Dr. Michael Wald, author of the upcoming book Frankenfoods - Controversy, Lies & Your Health available April 2014, offers a riveting perspective of the GMO predicament exploring governmental and industry cover-ups, health dangers, environmental threats, GMO-free food plans and recipes, nutritional supplements and other practical solutions. Dr. Wald declares, "The GMO dilemma is here to stay and anyone interested in protecting their health and that of their loved ones, friends and the planet, must educate themselves and take political and personal action right now!" There is much debate over the extent to which GMOs are healthy to consume. All GMOs currently sold in the U.S. have been approved by the government as healthy and safe for human consumption, but this does not mean that they are healthy or safe for human consumption. Remember, GMO “safety” studies and determinations are carried out by Monsanto and the seed manufacturers themselves – an inherently biased and self-serving strategy.
New Allergens, Increased Toxicity, Decreased Nutrition
and Antibiotic Resistance
There are several types of potential negative health effects that could result from eating GMOs. The health effects of primary concern are: production of new allergens, increased toxicity, decreased nutrition and antibiotic resistance, just to name a few.
If the protein in a GMO comes from a source known to cause allergies, or from a source that is not generally consumed as human food, there is a concern that an allergic reaction could be elicited from the protein. Most plants produce substances that are toxic to humans. In a study on humans, one of the subjects in the experimental group showed an immune response to GM soy but not to non-GM soy. The GM soy contained a protein that was different from the non-GM soy. This finding showed that GMOs such as GM soy are capable of causing new allergies and can provoke immune reactions.
